The 1930's was an important period
of social development; it was an era of technological & architectural
achievement that supported new experiements in communal living
and ambitious new building projects, such as Chatsworth Court
and its neighbour Marlborough Court. When originally
constructed, Chatsworth Court offered Residents the services & amenities
of; "an
upmarket Country Club set in Gardens rather than just another
block of flats".
Constructed in 1935, the main building
included a large restaurant complex situated in the basement,
which provided full catering services to each of the Apartments,
a large furnished lounge, tennis courts, squash courts, swimming
baths & fully landscaped gardens.
Technological developments were such
that Residents enjoyed electric clocks, an internal telehpone
system linking each apartment to a porter & maid service,
individual kitchens & private bathrooms, all of which were
considered to be the 'luxuries of the day'.
